Standards

OpenFPGA is about developing open standards for enterprise and high-performance applications employing reconfigurable computing devices. Formed in 2005 with an international steering group leading the way, OpenFPGA continues to drive the industry forward towards an open ecosystem for hybrid computing and acceleration where reconfigurable computing is involved.

OpenFPGA members have clarified the process for defining and adopting standards. A document describing the process is available in the Standards Documents Section below.

Just released! The GenAPI version 0.4 Specification Draft for Comment has been posted for preliminary comment and implementation. Input is specifically sought in the following areas:
  • Ease of implementation in each of C, C++, Java, Fortran and Python - problems encountered implementing actual or reference versions of the API within FPGA vendor development environments
  • Recommendations for handling error conditions - likely vendor specific recommendations for handling error conditions
  • Limitations of functionality - essential vendor specific capabilities that cannot be implemented with the proposed API
  • General comments on possible ambiguities in the specification

The draft document is available below in the Standards Document section. Comments are due by August 15, 2008. Send comments to openfpga-comments@openaccelerator.org and include the phrase "GENAPI COMMENT" in your reply.

Early implementors of the OpenFPGA GenAPI are asked to contact OpenFPGA for further information on potential certification.

Individuals interested in staying informed on the latest developments are encouraged to join the OpenFPGA public mailing list. Individuals interested in helping shape the standards are encouraged to  become members of OpenFPGA and join the working groups.
