OpenFPGA Steering Group Meeting - January 24, 2006

OpenFPGA Steering Group Call-in Summary

Participating: George Washington University, OSC, Mitrionics, SRC Computers Inc, University of Manchester, GE Global R/D, Oak Ridge National Lab, University of Cincinnati

Organizational
• Progress is being made to create an independent organization. Draft bylaws have been prepared based and are being reviewed.

Financial
• Organizations are beginning to provide support to OpenFPGA to enable the working groups to move ahead more rapidly. Additional response is expected after the organization is officially formed.
• Companies making a contribution will be offered the opportunity to have their name and logo displayed at the OpenFPGA site.
• Additional opportunities for support are being pursued to jump-start the financial position for all of the working groups.

Long-range planning
• A framework is being put in place to develop a longer-term strategic plan for OpenFPGA.

Working groups
• OpenFPGA working groups are beginning to form in four of six areas. Improvements are needed and expected in linking and connecting working group members. An improved database system is expected shortly.
• Possible near-term and long-term objectives for the working groups will be developed.
• Organizing leads for two working groups (HLLANG and APPLIB) are still being sought.

Website
• New items will be added to the website in the near-term, including more information on how to get started with FPGA application development.
• Supporting organizations will have more options to make their important role known with a stronger web presence.
