OpenFPGA Steering Group Meeting - September 13, 2005

OpenFPGA Steering Group Meeting Summary
September 13, 2005
11:00 AM EDT

Participating: SGI, Cray, HPTi, OSC, SRC, Sandia National Lab, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, ZIB, Mitrion

The steering group discussed the working group on common FPGA interfaces held at MAPLD on September 9. The group concluded that separate, more focused working groups were needed to accommodate the range of priorities. These areas included –
• High-level languages and algorithm specifications
• Common library application programming interfaces
• Hardware abstraction layers
• Functional core interoperability
An imperative was placed on defining the descriptions and objectives for the working groups by SC05.

Mitrion has created a Wiki summary of information to be reviewed for possible posting at the Open FPGA site. Review of the Wiki was requested.

The steering group also agreed it was time to migrate from an ad hoc organization to a more mature organizational structure to support the working groups.

Discussions progressed to focus on preparations for SC05.
• Details of the t-shirt for SC05 were discussed, with support from FHPCA
for the cost accepted. Details of tshirt will be provided.
• BOF planning was deferred until participation from organizers was
present in the meeting.
• Trade-show floor activities were reviewed, including maturity of the
scavenger hunt and literature and a request to promote the BOF.
• A steering group meeting will be planned at SC05, with a need for
call-in support for those not attending to participate.

Meeting adjourned.
