OpenFPGA Steering Group Meeting - May 24, 2005

Participating organizations included University of South Carolina, OSC, Sandia National Laboratory, Nallatech, NASA, Starbridge, GE, Mitrion, ZIB and Koan Corporation

Action items were reviewed including

  • Finalizing summary minutes from prior meetings
  • Update on contact for potential invited speaker to OpenFPGA steering group on standards issues and organizations.
  • Checking viability of calendar of FPGA events at RCNewsNow
  • Review of current status of OpenFPGA forums

The format of the forums was discussed and changes were recommended to:

  • provide easy access for new interested parties and require no pre-qualification to participate in forums
  • use a single point of entry to the forums through the OpenFPGA.org web site to help ensure participants that OpenFPGA is not a commercial effort
  • kick-off the forums appropriately for the community by seeding discussion in key areas

Additional volunteer coaches for the forum topics were also identified.

A discussion of meeting locations and times continued with the group agreeing that meeting in July, preferably after the NCSA summer institute on reconfigurable computing, and a time in September,
associated with MAPLD would be good opportunities to meet before the planned OpenFPGA BOF at SC05 in November. A draft organizational charter will be developed prior to the first steering group meeting to be discussed at the meeting.

It was also identified that adding participation from organizations in Asia and Australia would be helpful. Invitations will be sent.

Action items were identified for the next meeting.

Meeting adjourned 11:55 AM
